Building Blocks of History 9th August

Things happen every day, big and small. Together they make our family history, our local history, our country’s history and sometimes they become part of global history.

All of these things happened on 9th August in years gone by.

In 1173 construction of the Leaning Tower of Pisa began.

In 1870 The Elementary Education Act was passed, making education compulsory for 5 to 13 year olds in England and Wales.

In 1902 Edward VII and Alexandra were crowned.

In 2011 we visited the traditional seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare.

A far-sighted gift

to future generations

taken for granted.
