Building Blocks of History 17th May

Things happen every day, big and small. Together they make our family history, our local history, our country’s history and sometimes they become part of global history.

All of these things happened on 17th May in years gone by.

In  1620 the world’s first merry-go-round appeared at a Bulgarian fair.

In 1861 Thomas cook’s first package holiday began – London Bridge to Paris.

In 1943 Wing commander Guy Gibson lead the Dam Busters raid.

In 2014 we spent the day Geocaching in Leicester.

Happy voyagers

searching across the oceans

a contented heart.

‘In 1620 the world’s first merry-go-round appeared at a Bulgarian fair’ and ‘In 1861 Thomas cook’s first package holiday began – London Bridge to Paris.’, 2 bits of interesting historic trivia, many thanks for sharing!

  2. Pleased they made you smile, but future ones, theoretically could be 30+, however not likely, diabetes has the better of me, (physically), mentally sound, apart from short term amnesia. Now where was I 😉 … seriously, wishing you many happy 17th’s May too. A haiku reminder for myself…
