Building Blocks of History 30th November

Things happen every day, big and small. Together they make our family history, our local history, our country’s history and sometimes they become part of global history.

All of these things happened on 30th November in years gone by.

1872 the first international football match between England Scotland ended in a draw.

1934 The Flying Scotsman became the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph.

1962 Sir Winston Churchill celebrated his 80th birthday.

1970 & 80s At my girls’ boarding school in Scotland, we celebrated St Andrew’s Night with a traditional dance with a nearby boys’ school.

A day of world firsts

And national celebrations

Our shared heritage.
