Family

This weekend’s WP Photo Challenge is Family.

Ducks This Mother Duck was protecting her brood from this menacing swan which was very obviously targeting lone duckings and bearing down on them. The splash in front of the swan is a panicking duckling trying to escape.  I don’t know if swans eat ducklings but it certainly looked like that is what it was trying to do.  I’ve seen swans in a totally different light ever since.

  1. That duck looks kind of weak in front of the swan, but then she is a mom and mom’s will do anything to protect their children anyway – Family , that first picture says it all, Beautiful Capture 🙂
PS : Swans are not the gentle sailing birds they are shown to be in most of the fairy tales, Especially male swans in some swan species are fearless and tend to develop aggressiveness as they mature (Just saying :))

  11. We were punting once with the family, and a swan out of nowhere went for my niece who was only two years old and sat minding her own business in the bottom of the punt. Truly frightening and it took two big men batting at it with oars to get it away. She was unhurt but still frightened of swans 14 years later not surprisingly! So I’m not surprised that duckling took a dive!
Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day by the way… I’m going to look round yours now 🙂
