My School Sports Day

I’ve just discovered Trifecta  and thought I’d give it a go. This weekend’s challenge is  a thirty-three word free-write.  Any topic, any style –

School Sports Day

An afternoon spent in the hot sun, diplomatically deciding which child has won the egg and spoon race, fending off parents who think they know better, soothing the tears of the unsuccessful athletes.

  1. Yes! Being a teacher, I, too, can attest to the fact that, at times, the greatest competitions happen on the sidelines. It isn’t always easy to play referee between parents and/or between a parent and a teacher, while in front of your students/their children. Never pleasant. Good topic to write about for your debut! 🙂 Welcome aboard.

  2. Ah , yes, I too have encountered these pesky parents. Once, when my daughter was four years old, we had a party. After we awarded the team that won in a relay race, one other mothers from the team that lost insisted we have consolation prizes for the team that did not win. After all, they did try, she insisted. Well, I did not have any. What I really wanted to tell her is that in the real world, if you lose, you lose. End of story.
